ADDIS ABABA—Since climate change is now affecting all African countries, Africans have to move in unison to be triumphant over the impacts of this natural disorder, so stated Ministry of Water and Energy.
Water and Energy Minister, Eng. Habtamu Itefa (PhD) stated that climate change has affected the continent of Africa. Hence, Africa should employ all possible means to defend its people and natural resources.
“Africa accounts for the smallest gas emission. Yet, it becomes one of the foremost vulnerable one to global climate change. Drought, flood, sudden fire, soil erosion, and other climatic disasters are affecting the continent. So, we need to take initiatives to tackle the challenge,” he said.
As to him, the human and natural resources could help Africa to address the challenge easily. But, it needs to set platforms to customize all these resources. He said, “The drought occurred in southern and southeast Ethiopia has affected millions locally, and other African countries are also experiencing the same problem. Ethiopia’s
green legacy initiative should be taken as continental multifaceted response to the growing impact of climate change, and the country is committed to extend the green legacy initiative and other hydro metrological schemes.”
Ethiopian Metrology Institute General Director, Fetene Teshome on his part said that African countries should cooperate in sharing climatic precautionary information. He further stated that the impact of climate change in Africa is not synonymous with other continents as their life highly depends on nature. Hence, precautionary works should be given attention. The World Meteorological Organization has also allocated 1.5 billion USD to support Africa’s climate change response, it was learnt.
