ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) disclosed that it will soon engage in creating common understanding on its major roles to the public at large.

ENDC Commission Commissioner Yonas Adaye (PhD) told The Ethiopian that there are misunderstandings on the commission’s roles as some groups think that the National Dialogue would solve the country’s old-age political conflicts once and for all. He, therefore, said that there are some issues that would not be solved via conducting National Dialogue in overnight.

“Over the past years, some issues have practically taught us the presence of some difficult issues that could not be addressed by carrying out the National Dialogue. Thus, the misconceptions considering the National Dialogue as all existing problems solver in the country should be corrected.”

As National Dialogue allows win-win approach for all parties, solving some issues via dialogue would be a challenge in some cases. Those challenging issues would get solutions through, mediation and negotiation, he added.

“The aim of National Dialogue is restoring or bringing peace in a peaceful  or democratic manner apart from making dialogue the culture of citizens.” “From the very beginning, ENDC has been working not to be under the pressure of external forces. As the external interference affects the outcome of dialogue, we are taking care of this.

ENDC has been performing its task by its own capacity engaging the whole stakeholders, individuals, community members, and institutions, religious, civic and other associations.”

He indicated that various efforts are being finalized to hold discussion with Diasporas as they are part of National Dialogue. It was learnt that ENDC has been opening branches in various states of the country and holding discussions with community representatives at national level.
