ADDIS ABABA- Ethiopian Trading Business Corporation stated that it has laid a cornerstone to build a G+10 commercial refrigerator and multi-purpose building. Laying the cornerstone, Corporation CEO, Acha Demssie stated that 1.3 billion Birr has been budgeted to the project, and the commercial refrigerator will provide services of keeping food and perishable commercial items cold and safe.
The commercial refrigerator warehouse will be inaugurated and go operational after 18 months, whereas the entire project will be completed after four years of construction, Acha said. “Fruits and other perishable foods need commercial refrigerator, no doubt. Ethiopia is now losing lot of asset due to absence of commercial refrigerator to keep fruits safe. So now, we have launched the construction of this freezer and multi-purpose building.”
The project consisting of shops, supermarkets, laboratories, and offices will also help producers and retailers [of vegetable and fruits] to store and provided customers with products easily. Industry State Minister Hassen Muhammad on his part said that the project will help to preserve fruits for a long time and enhance healthcare.
“Economically, we need to preserve food items for long time to defend food inflation. If we lessen the perishability of fruits, there could be no need of importing fruits from other countries instead projects like this have to be expanded,” he said. The construction of the project is being carried out by a domestic contractor, FE Constructions, The Ethiopian learnt.
