ADDIS ABABA – Cuban Ambassador to Ethiopia Jorge Lefebre Nicolás said that Ethiopia has successfully defeated the then Somali dictators’ aggression against its territorial integrity.
In connection with the 44th Anniversary of the Victory of Karamara yesterday, Ambassador Jorge Lefebre Nicolás said that in the Ogaden, the Ethiopian troops, with the internationalist support of the Cuban combatants, defeated the aggression against the territorial integrity of Ethiopia, promoted from Somalia.
In an exclusive interview with EBC, the Ambassador reviewed passages of this important internationalist feat, which was called Operation Baraguá by the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, and in which 163 Cuban combatants offered their lives, whose sacrifice became then and forever always, the foundation for the relations of brotherhood and solidarity between the Cuban and Ethiopian peoples.
He stressed that relations between Cuba and Ethiopia have remained close. Over 5,000 Ethiopian students have graduated from Cuban universities since the 1970s and the Cuban government has annually maintained an allocation of scholarships to Ethiopian students to study in Cuba in different specialties.
Similarly, Cuba contributes to the health sector and sends physicians who provide services in health institutions in Addis Ababa, according to the Ambassador.
