ADDIS ABABA– Over 800,000 USD has been secured from ticket sales on the EyezonEthiopia fundraising platform for the dinner program held as part of the #GreatEthiopianHomeComing at the National Palace last Sunday, the coordinators disclosed.

“We have sold over 800,000 USD worth of tickets on Eyezon platform including the swift-transfers for the first event at Grand Menelik Palace,” platform coordinators said. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and high-level government officials, members of the Diaspora community and other invitees attended the homecoming dinner.

Diaspora Ethiopians told local media during  the dinner program that for the past several years, they used to be regarded as enemies of the country and Prime Minister Abiy’s coming to power is instrumental in changing the government’s perception. Accordingly, the Diasporas have extended substantial support to their home country since then.

Liyu Daniel, from Texas, stressed that helping a country of origin and fellow citizens is something expected from the Diaspora community and it shouldn’t be regarded as affiliation with the sitting government.

Another Diaspora, Desalegn Abera, from Tennessee, believes that Diaspora Ethiopians have the responsibility to take their home country out of the problem and to support its peace and development.

It is to be recalled that Ethiopians in the Diaspora raised over five million USD in two months as of December 29, 2021, through the Eyezon Ethiopia fundraising platform.
