ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) inked a five year lease agreement with Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia plc. to share dark fibre-optic.
The agreement is said to cover 4,097 kilometer, 2,078 kilometer and 2,904 kilometer in the first, second and third phases respectively.
During the signing ceremony, EEP Chief Executive Officer Ashebir Balcha noted that the signed agreement has laid a foundation for the activities that the two companies would work in the future adding that apart from generating and transferring power, Safaricom Ethiopia is contributing a huge share in digitalizing the telecom sector in the country.
Noting that the agreement would be a good gesture for Safaricom Ethiopia, he further emphasized that it would enhance the mutual benefits of the two companies. Appreciating the growth that the nation has showed in the telecom sector, Safaricom Ethiopia Chief Executive Officer Anwar Sousse expressed that the agreement boosts Safaricom’s desire of working with EEP.
He said: “We are grateful for the spirit of cooperation from EEP on the win-win partnership to support our contributions to the digital transformation of Ethiopia.” He also stated his company’s readiness to play their share in the effort that is being carried out to realize digital transformation in Ethiopia.
Safaricom Ethiopia is exerting its utmost effort to provide quality and standardized telecom service for its customers, as to him. On behalf of the two companies, Ashebir and Anwar signed the agreement, it was learnt.
