Ethiopia and United States of America set up diplomatic relations some 120 years ago in order to perpetuate and strengthen the friendly relations which exist between Ethiopia and the United States of America. As this friendly relation continues growing, Ethiopia became a strategic partner of the United States in fighting terrorism.
In this era of cooperation when most countries in the globe are swimming in an ocean with a win-win roar, the diplomatic relation between Ethiopia and the US, which has accounted for many successive years, should flow in a very principled channel, where issues of investment, climate change, fighting terrorism and the likes are run keeping the essence incorporated in the UN Charter centering mutual respect.
As the manner US showed in the recent Cessation of Hostilities, an inspiring observer status of course, it needs to let Ethiopia fairly resolve problems and employ mechanisms within the latter’s own reach, in the future, if any.
In so doing, the two countries can lay the longstanding relations on unwavering foundation thereby substantially improving the long aged ties and being determined to collaboratively work in various aspects. Yes, Ethiopia has also been regarded as a reliable partner of the U.S. and a symbol of peace and stability in a volatile Horn region.
Since the doldrums witnessed following the unprecedented situation Ethiopia was facing in its north are now being healed, the two countries have confluence point to further strengthen ties with a view to spurringthe relation to a rewarding step.
Cognizant of the fact that Ethiopia is a strategic partner of the United States in the war on terrorism and even combating climate change, pursuing a policy of solidarity and committing to flourish the century plus amicable move is a right step.
The diplomatic relationship between the two countries is now being invaluable and of paramount importance in advancing regional peace and security, spurring broad-based economic growth, among others.
The valued partnership of the two nations that had withstood the test of time needs to be further strengthened in a manner that is mutually positive. They must be guided by this principle as they endeavor to lay themselves on an even resilient base. The US needs to live up to promises and translate words into practice, too, as it is heard of saying that it is ready as well as willing to respect Ethiopia’s sovereignty and national integrity. Hence, it is expected to support Ethiopia in various ways like confirming AGOA reinstatement.
Unquestionably, the two countries have relished a warm government-to-government and people-to-people relations for more than a century, and most importantly these noteworthy ties have to transcend the track of time and the strong bonds of fraternity and cordial steps have to continue flourishing unobstructed by respective changes in governments.
All in all, as Ethiopia has remained an autonomous state in Africa for more than three millennia and is an icon of pan-Africanism, it is determined to keep such a pride forever. It is also keen to boost strong relations with the US today and is a valuable partner in the war on pertinent global disorders such as climate change and has remained a lynchpin of stability in the Horn of Africa.
Since Ethiopia is looking forward to continuing to reinforce relations with the US in various aspects keeping mutual respect, the latter is also expected to act the same, based on a principled association.
