ADDIS ABABA- The successful conduct of the 35th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa is a great diplomatic success for the hosting nation, the Government Communication Service (GCS) said

In a press statement it issued in connection with the Summit, the GCS stated that Ethiopia has garnered a significant diplomatic achievement by hosting the continental event peacefully thereby repulsing the unjust pressures of some interest groups and the coordinated media lies. The peaceful conduct of the Summit attested Ethiopia’s longstanding experience to host continental and international events amidst the false propaganda of some interest groups.

The bilateral discussions that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed(PhD) and the Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen held with African counterparts on the sidelines of the Summit expected to enhance Ethiopia’s relations with the respective countries, GCS added.

The statement further noted that African leaders that partook in the Summit reached consensus to work in unison to attain Africa’s aspiration to secure permanent representation in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The leaders also passed different decisions that are believed to trigger the realization of Agenda 2063 in their first meeting since the outbreak of COVID-19.
