ADDIS ABABA – Expert have applauded the initiative of the government towards addressing pilled-up and existing national problems via setting up an independent National Dialogue Commission.

The government strongly believes that Ethiopia’s problems need to be addressed through dialogue so as to overcome wide range of challenges. Accordingly the government is working to solve old aged political challenges of the country employing inclusive national dialogue run by the commission.

In this end, North Carolina University Political Science Researcher and Instructor Prof. Brook Hailu said that the establishment of the national dialogue commission will open up another phase in Ethiopia’s democratization process as it is of paramount importance in addressing the problems from the grassroots.

He indicated that the effort of the government to resolve old-aged political puzzlements of the country through an inclusive manner, and the commission will play a significant role in solving accumulated problems and grievances at all levels.

The national dialogue will identify the causes of each problems and thorough discussion will result in to the extent of amending the constitution and minifying all problems from which Ethiopia has been suffering for years, he noted.

On the other hand, this dialogue should not be a short term activity; instead, it must be made a culture to properly pass from generation to generation and create a civilized society in the future, and all concerned need to clearly discuss the subject matter to suitably pave the way forward, he said.

Obviously, following the conflict, many normal activities were disordered, social lives disrupted, schools, universities, health centers and other governmental activities were made dysfunctional, he added.

“Due to the conflict the government budget is reoriented towards the affected services and regions so as to rehabilitate the damaged areas, and this has been causing shortage of resources. Since the sole effort of the government leads nowhere, devising lasting mechanisms to the heaped problems requires the combined effort of all including civil society organizations and other stakeholders,” he said.
