ADDIS ABABA-Restoring peace and security in affected communities remains the key priority of the government and coordinated measures have been taken by security forces, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said.

The Premier twitted that attacks on innocent civilians and destruction of their livelihoods by illegal and irregular forces is unacceptable.

“There is zero tolerance for horrific acts claiming lives recently in both Benishangul and Oromia regions by elements whose main objective is to terrorise communities. Accordingly, restoring peace and security in affected communities remains our key priority,” Abiy stressed.

Meanwhile, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen expressed deep sorrow over massacre of civilians in Gimbi District, West Wollega Zone of the Oromia State whereby the terrorist group slaughtered civilians including women and children.

The DPM further highlighted that, the terrorist group’s massacring of innocent civilians is an act of desperation to retaliate the defeat it has sustained by the coordinated measure of security forces and members of the public. “The forces doomed attempt in Gambela was foiled; sadly it turned its head towards civilians in Gimbi. The action is dismaying and inhumane.”

Expressing deep sorrow over the harm the group inflicted on civilian communities in various places, Demeke asserted that the law enforcement measures against the group will be strengthened, perpetrators will be brought to justice, and families of the victims will be rehabilitated.
