Japan to grant 3.5 mln USD lifesaving foods for conflict, drought affected people

ADDIS ABABA – The government of Japan has decided to grant lifesaving food worth 3.5 million USD for people who are affected by conflict and drought in Ethiopia. In a press release sent to The Ethiopian , Japan Embassy to Ethiopia said the government of Japan decided to extend an emergency grant aid worth 3.5 million USD for the most nutritionally vulnerable population affected by the conflicts and drought.

The grant aid will be provided as emergency food assistance through a partnership with the World Food Program (WFP). It is expected to procure 1,093MT of specialized nutritious food for 38,800 children 6 to 59 months and 16,500 pregnant and lactating women in Ethiopia. The support will be provided through the targeted supplementary feeding program, in line with the National Guidelines for Management of Acute Malnutrition, as to the release.

It was learnt that due to the deterioration of global food security which has been exacerbated by the situation in Ukraine, Japan is providing food-related assistance totaling USD 50 million to countries in Africa, Middle East and Asia. Japan will also continue to make efforts to ensure global food security in collaboration with the international community, including the G7.
