ADDIS ABABA – Menschen for Menschen has handed over 40 million Birr humanitarian aid to Afar State Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs).
It was learnt that the relief supply will be served for 40,000 people for a month. The humanitarian supplies include wheat flour, edible oil, rice, lifesaving nutrition and other food items.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Menschen for Menschen Country Reptesentarive Yilma Taye said that the organization will continue strengthening the accessibility of relief supply and rehabilitation activities for IDPs.
Even if the organization has been implementing integrated rural development activities across the country, it has been providing victims with relief supply at the time of natural and made disasters, he added.
As to him, over the last 40 years, Menschen for Menschen has made over six million people beneficiary investing over six billion Birr, and the organization has a long time experience in humanitarian and development activities in Ethiopia.
Organization’s Honorable Ambassador Athlete Major Haile Gebreselassie on his part said that the cooperation of all parties is crucial for accessing humanitarian aid and rehabilitation activities of IDPs in Amhara and Afar States. Supporting the IDPs is the responsibility of all people, he opined.
Afar State Disaster Preparedness and Reponses Director Mohamed Abedalla said on the occasion that the movement of Ethiopians to support IDPs is unique and should be well fortified.
Efforts are underway to restore damaged houses an overall rehabilitation work in partnership with various stakeholders, he indicated.
Menschen for Menschen has provided Amhara State with various relief supplies and medical equipment, it was learnt.
