Ministry supplies towns with dump trucks

ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Urban Development and Infrastructure yesterday provided 15 towns with dump trucks, which worth 51 million Birr, for their best performance during the second Urban Local Development Program (ULDPII) carried out for the last five years.

Handing over trucks to the respective mayors of praised towns, Urban Development and Infrastructure Minister, Chaltu Sani stated that Ethiopia’s urban development is under gravitated forces of both challenging and auspicious factors.

“Towns awarded with such decisive trucks by the ministry include Dessie, Debre Tabor, Bahir Dar, Bishoftu, Nekemt, Jimma, Jigjiga, Hawasa, Butajira, Hosaena, Semera, Assosa, Gambela, Harar, and Dire Dawa,” she listed.

“The population growth in urban areas is becoming over the capacity of towns. Municipal services and urban infrastructure development needs extra efforts; hence we need to appreciate towns for their municipal service performance,” she remarked.

According to Chaltu, the ULDP II Program has been carried out in 44 towns over the last five years. Greening, community services, urban developmental projects have been performed during the session of the program, she added.

She has also noted that the government will work for the wake of urban development with prompting engagement.
