DEBRE TABOR – Various activities has been carrying out in collaborate with stakeholders to improve hospitality services in Debre Tabor, so disclosed office.
The Debre Tabor City Culture and Tourism Office Head Getenet Kebie told The Ethiopian that the city has been undertaking many activities to promote tourist destinations effectively utilizing the available resources and tourism potentials.
According to the Head, the office has been working on promoting, developing, and encouraging the sector since the recent reform has created a good opportunity to this end. He further stated that investors living home and abroad have been involving in hotel
industry following the city’s intensified promotion campaigns. In this regard, Amhara state administration has been playing a significant role in deploying the tourism experts to Debre Tabor city in order to maximize hospitality.
“The city is the home of ancient Ethiopian leaders, historic sites, place of abundant resources, and the likes. However, people have not yet been benefiting sufficiently due to lack of serious attention given to the sector,” he added.
“Currently, the office is actively promoting tourism destinations in the city and its environs to get adequate benefit out of the sector in the years to come. This type of activity would bring remarkable outcome in promoting country’s positive image, protecting culture, and creating jobs.
Additionally, investors drawn from Bahir Dar, Gondar, and Addis Ababa have invested huge capital in hotels in Debre Tabor. For example, at the center of the city, a 15 story hotel is being constructed and other star rated hotels which are significantly useful in facilitating the hospitality service in the city,” he added.
Furthermore, the Office has planned to host Merkorios and horse ride (Feres Guges), annual festivals colorfully, which can be celebrated by over 5,000 attendances at Ajibar-Meda.
Hibrt Hotel S.C Manager,Yigezaw Alemu on his part said, “Hospitality service in Debre Tabor city is low compared to the historical and huge resource of the area. In this regard, Hibrt Hotel has created over 92 jobs among these women take the lion’s share.”
According to the Manager, the hospitality service should be improved and expanded in the city, which is crucial to build the image of the area in particular and that of the nation in general. The hotel has planned to increase the number of jobs to 108 soon thereby maximizing the hospitality service with the standard.”
