ADDIS ABABA –Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) held fruitful discussions with officials of the European Union(EU) on the ways of strengthening relationships between Ethiopia and EU, Government Communication Service (GCS) disclosed.
GCS State Minister Selamawit Kassa told local media that the Premier held fruitful discussions with European Union Council (EUC) President Charles Michel and the EU International Partnerships Commissioner,
Jutta Urpilainen. Selamawit also stated that the premier briefed on the current situations in the country and the various steps that the government has taken to ensure peace in Ethiopia.
The State Minister said, “Prime Minister Abiy noted regardless of the Ethiopian government’s efforts for peace, the terrorist TPLF has launched repeated attacks in Afar state.” she added that the Premier also noted the terrorist has killed many civilians, destroyed properties, forcing the residents to flee their home.
As to Selamawit, PM Abiy called on the international community to denounce the terrorist group, realizing its evil acts.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Abiy also raised to the EU officials about the severe drought which occurred in the country and caused huge harms on communities, and called on the EU and the international community to extend support for those in need of immediate assistance, it was also reported.
It was also disclosed that the EU officials appreciated the government’s effort to ensure peace in the country and urged for concerted efforts to this end, and lauded the lifting of the nationwide State of Emergency.
Meanwhile, PM Abiy talked with Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Jansa and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
After his discussion with Slovenian PM, Abiy tweeted, “We talked with Prime Minister Janez Jansa about bolstering Ethiopia and Slovenia’s long-standing relationship, as well as technical and economic cooperation.” Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is in Brussels to participate in the 6th European UnionAfrican Union (AU-EU) Summit.
