President conveys best wishes to newly appointed ambassadors

ADDIS ABABA – President Sahlework Zewde conveyed best wishes to the newly appointed ambassadors and urged them to uphold the national interest working hard on bolstering amicable relationships among countries.

Addressing the newly appointed ambassadors, President Sahlework Zewde on Thursday said that diplomacy is among the core things in which a given nation is being built and called up on the appointees to scale up a fraternal relationship with the rest of the world and neighboring countries. Besides, ambassadors have a great responsibility of protecting the multifaceted national interests of their country beyond strengthening ties and other multi-lateral engagements, she indicated.

“Nothing is more prestigious and pride than serving a country representing it somewhere else at a continental and global stage, and you all are expected to fly Ethiopian flag high in the international arena. Similarly, the ambassadors are duty bound to protect national interest of the country, build its image, make the voice of the country heard loud at continental and global levels,” she stated.

By the same token Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Demeke Mekonnen said that they have been provided with capacity building training to help them effectively and confidently discharge their respective duties and responsibilities. The ambassadors are also expected to better protect the multifaceted interests of their country via diplomatic campaign so as to realize the country’s reform process.

He further stated that ambassadors should play a great role in protecting the national interest of the country and promoting it internationally. They need to keep the recent momentum and the unwavering efforts of the federal government and Ethiopians at home and abroad to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
