ADDIS ABABA– CGTN Africa ranking has featured President Sahlework Zewde, the current head of state in Ethiopia, among Africa’s top influential women.
As to CGTN Africa website, Sahlework, having been elected in October 2018 as Ethiopian president and the first woman to ever serve in this position.
The 72-year-old lady also served within the ranks of the United Nations as Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the United Nations Integrated Peace-building Office in the Central African Republic (BINUCA), becoming the first African woman to become an SRSG, CGTN Africa wrote on its website.
Besides, she was the first dedicated Director-General of the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON) at the level of Under-Secretary-General. Sahlework previously served in various ambassadorial positions, including in Senegal, France, Tunisia, Morocco, among others.
Over the years, various women from across the world have defied gigantic odds to make worthwhile achievements in many fields; leaving an indelible mark in the books of history among those, President Sahlework is the one.
As CGTN Africa reported, this year’s International Women’s Day, a day set aside to recognize women for their achievements irrespective of their nationality, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political, was carried out solely based on merit.
It is also stated that a number of women have made a name for themselves in different fields, becoming an inspiration for the continent’s hundreds of millions of women in Africa particularly. To mention but a few, Africa’s top achieving women it means, Samia Suluhu Hassan President of Tanzania, Amina J. Mohammed Deputy
Secretary-General of the United Nations, NgoziOkonjo-Iweala Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Martha Koome Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, Louise Mushiki wabo Secretary General La Francophonie, and Salima Rhadia Mukansang a Football Referee.
