ADDIS ABABA – Two patriotic individuals namely Bogalech Kebede and Yenemeleh Bantayehu (Vamose Entertainment PLC.) donated yesterday one million Birr each to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The money was collected in the event held at Ethiopian Renaissance Coordinating Project Office.
During the occasion, Bogalech, who contributed one million Birr to the GERD project, said that the dam’s unique importance to change the livelihoods of Ethiopian women and girls motivated her to make such a contribution. “As women and girls in Ethiopia have been seriously affected by lack of electricity, I made this contribution to the GERD, the catalyst of Ethiopia’s development and changing the livelihoods of fellow citizens.”
“I am very delighted by the GERD’s commencement of electricity generation and it is really exciting news for me and fellow women. The public is ready to support the building of the dam financially, professionally and in other ways,” she added.
For Vamose Entertainment PLC Manager Yenemeleh Bantayehu, the first-time electricity generation of the GERD is an indication of Ethiopians capability to do whatever they want to do even in the times of difficulties. Vamose has been extending continuous support to the GERD since its launching and it will continue till the completion of the dam.
Office Director- General, Aregawi Berhe (PhD) highlighted that the two million Birr donation would have a huge significance to motivate the public to keep its contribution to Ethiopia’s iconic project. The GERD is the symbol of freedom, sovereignty, fairness and it is also an inspirational factor to overcome the undue pressure of some interest groups on Ethiopia.
Noting the first-time electricity generation of the GERD is a milestone in attesting Ethiopia’s capability to execute any project by own resources, the director- general called on the public to further extend their support.
Office Deputy Director- General, Fikeret Tamer said for her that the two individuals’ contribution attests the sense of patriotism and a love for the motherland. The fund raising program is intensified till the completion of the GERD and the office plans various activities to avail the opportunity to the public to put their own fingerprint in the mega dam.
