ADDIS ABABA– The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has called on Ethiopians, foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin and friends residing in home and overseas to protest against the malicious H.R.6600 and S.3199 draft bills.

MoFA Spokesperson Dina Mufti told the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) that the concrete efforts of Ethiopians in home and abroad are crucial to block the ill-conceived resolution that will otherwise harm the peace and development of the country. Diaspora Ethiopians have been doing great jobs in opposing the malicious bill and all concerned bodies need to join hands with the former. Likewise, Ethiopians in the U.S. have to make more of a push to confer with their respective senators and congress members and inform the latter about the impact of the bill.

The spokesperson further highlighted that the U.S. clearly knows that Ethiopia unwillingly entered into conflict with TPLF and the intention of the Biden Administration initiating such a malicious bill is to support the TPLF’ cause. The bill halts the envisaged national dialogue process and the country’s move towards peace and stability. H.R. 6600 also harms efforts that have been executed to ensure peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

“H.R.6600 is drafted to reverse Ethiopia’s peace process, the achievements of Ethiopians all over the world in protecting the sovereignty of their country and the resolutions will deteriorate the long-standing relationships between the two countries. The draft bill is also against the government plan to reconstruct and rehabilitate the war-affected communities and infrastructure.”

Noting the Ethiopians in the Diaspora have made commendable contributions in rejecting unwarranted intervention, Dina urged the former to maintain the protests.

By the same token, Genet Negussie, Ethiopian-American who is one of the coordinators of the advocacy campaigns, told The that Ethiopian- Americans and their organizations are working round-the-clock to urge some of the senators to reject the bills. The Ethiopian-Americans will be writing letters to their congress representatives and two senators in the White House to inform the latter about Ethiopia’s objective reality and urging them to reject the bill.

The Americans must stand up to their principles which are promoting democratic ideals, rather than deteriorating the move towards democracy and development. In this regard, the TPLF terrorist has been doing all sort of evils against the Ethiopian people. “The U.S. should support the government of Ethiopia that could promote peace and development in the Horn region which is the confluence point of the two-side, the U.S. and Ethiopia. There are not any reasons to put economic and diplomatic sanctions against the government of Ethiopia.”
