ADDIS ABABA – Despite the Ethiopian government’s relentless efforts to deliver food aid to Tigray having declared Humanitarian Truce, terrorist TPLF has been blocking aid supplies into Tigray invading some woredas of Afar state and closing the humanitarian corridor, according to the Chief of the General Staff.

Speaking to local media, Chief of the General Staff Field Marshal General Birhanu Jula said that the federal government declared a unilateral ceasefire with the aim of delivering humanitarian aid to Tigray without any trouble. But, the terrorist TPLF has several times refused to accept the call for a ceasefire and has been creating havoc invading some woredas of Afar state.

As to him, members and officials of the terrorist TPLF group here and abroad have been accusing the Ethiopian government for not providing aid to Tigray. “However, it is the TPLF that is preventing the people of Tigray from getting humanitarian assistance,” he also stated.

As a result, he said, a major crisis has erupted in the Tigray state, adding that the people of Tigray are also asking the whereabouts of their children who were forced to join the terrorist TPLF group and died in the war incited by the group.

The group is working to weaken the federal government by supporting anti-peace groups, as well as disseminating false information that could create conflict among the people and alienate the people from the leadership, he further indicated.

Regarding Debretsion’s letter to the United Nations, Field Marshal Birhanu stated that it is shocking and unfortunate that the UN has started receiving letters from a rebel group in a way that deviates from the purpose for which the organization was established.

Receiving a letter from a rebel group indicates that the UN is interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign states, he opined.

It is to be recalled that the Ethiopian government declared an indefinite Humanitarian Truce to hasten the delivery of emergency aid into the Tigray state.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MoFA) recently disclosed that there are limitations by the side of TPLF in implementing the enacted humanitarian truce and the government will continue to support the needy people.

MoFA Spokesperson Ambassador Dina Mufti said that the international community needs to pressure TPLF to obey by the truce.

As to him, humanitarian flights are being made to Mekelle, the delivery of aid to Tigray has been facilitated via road transport, and over the past week about 50 trucks of the WFP and the UN reached Tigray.
