Eid Homecoming forum for promoting Ethiopia: Co-chair

ADDIS ABABA- The Eid-to-Eid program is a good opportunity to promote Ethiopia’s religious, historical and social values to the global community and demonstrate the country’s special place in the history of Islam, the National Joint Committee co-chair said.

The committee co-chair and Foreign Affairs State Minister Birtukan Ayano made the above remark yesterday while inaugurating the Eid Expo which is part of the grand Eid-to-Eid program.

Noting the Eid Homecoming is the sequel of the GreatEthiopianHomeComing, Birtukan highlighted that the call aims to mobilize the participation of Ethiopians in the Diaspora to support peace and development back home. The coming of Ethiopians and foreigners of Ethiopian origin living abroad in a great number to their home country disproves some interest groups’ attempts to portray the country as a place of disorder and dismemberment.

The state minister further stated that Ethiopian Diplomatic missions abroad have been providing seamless services to members of the Ethiopian Diaspora who are responding to the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s EidHomecoming call. Also, the committee has carried out various tasks to the successful conduct of the program and similar events will be held in various parts of the country shortly.

About the Eid Expo, she indicated the event has a paramount economic importance and called on Diaspora Ethiopians to visit the marketers thereby promoting homegrown products.

Ethiopian Diaspora Agency Deputy Director- General Mohammed Indris (PhD) said for his part that the Diaspora to the EidHomecoming call is overwhelming Diaspora Ethiopians are expected to make active engagement for the successful conduct of the Eid-to-Eid program that will be marked in various parts of the country till the day of Eid-al-Adha.

For the Eid-to-Eid National Joint Committee another Co-Chair Ustaz Abubeker Ahmed, Ethiopian Muslim Diasporas immense response to the EidHomecoming attests Ethiopia’s special place in Islam and its status of being the first country to allow Muslims to practice their religion.

Ethiopian Diasporas ought to make meaningful involvement in the Eid-to-Eid programs and support the national efforts towards ensuring the peace and development of the country, Ustaz Abubeker made a pledge.

Board Chairperson of Halal Promotion, organizer of the Eid Expo FiyeselKemal stated on the occasion that the Expo enhances the selling horizon for merchants and provides a convenient shopping experience for consumers.

This year’s Eid Expo is being held for the 10th time.
