No matter what problems are and from where they emanate so long as they occur in Africa, African solutions have to be devised and well applied thereby coming up with lasting solutions in states of the continent peculiarly member ones. It is well recognized that political dialogue is necessary to resolve conflicts and achieve durable peace. Keeping this in mind, Ethiopia has welcomed envoys who are committed to support African-led talks towards resolving the conflict occurred a year ago following T-TPLF’s chauvinistic and stubborn stance.
However, it is recurrently witnessed that those who have come to foster dialogues between sparring parties failed to be impartial as they have merely focused on single-handed ideas compatible with their intention. What was observed on the side of EU and US envoys is a case in point in this regard. It is recalled that many from the Ethiopian side are expressing their dismay at the course chosen by team of envoys and ambassadors in handling the difficulty when in Mekele.
The high level western diplomats, the EU and US ones, preferred hammering appeasement and gratifying preconditions placed by T-TPLF to pressing unequivocal commitment for peace talks for regulating conditions towards coming up with lasting peace and stability in the country.
The envoys merely listed to the interests of T-TPLF for a swift restoration of electricity, telecom, banking and other basic services. Yes, their commitment to provide the community affected by conflict, drought and food insecurity in Ethiopia with relevant assistance is worth appreciating. However, they have preferred favoring one party and their attempt to focus on the preconditions expounded by it to arduously fostering means for real the proposed peace talks. This is an erroneously framed approach, indeed.
Undeniably, Ethiopia always believes that African Union Commission is capable of dealing with any problem the continent is facing. Hence, it has always entertained solutions and genuine approaches initiated by the commission. In the context of conflict resolving therein, the AU and its sub-regional organizations have developed significant institutional capacity as they have built up impressive outlook for peacemaking and reinvigorating Africa’s instantaneous progress. The AU has also experienced deploying special political mission in countries at risk of conflict. It has also continued providing members states with technical assistance, national infrastructure for peace and other relevant supports.
Cognizant of all this fact, Ethiopia greatly relies on AU’s capability and impartially as the latter endeavors to address African problems wherever their source may be since all problems are not necessarily coming out of the continent instead they are most of the time foreign orchestrated holding others’ interests.
Undeniably, African states endorsed the formation of OAU, lately named AUC of course, as an affirmation of their commitment to robust new path for attaining inclusive and sustainable economic growth, development, serenity and prosperity.
In sum, the notion of ‘African solutions for African problems,’ should always be kept in the minds of people of the continent. As the commission has fundamentally centered on increasing peace options, reducing conflicts, renewing economic and social progress, reinvigorating people centered development, among others, Ethiopia is all the time abide by the principles of the AU and has developed an unwavering stance about the capability and genuinely of continent’s mother organization.
